Lovebirds have many colour and mutations. The price was high in Indonesia. It's about $15 to $8000 per head. Nowadays, the price has been plunging. It's about $3 to a hundred dollars. This condition is difficult for many breeders in Indonesia. They have been grumble about the selling price and feed prices that continuously going up.
This phenomenon is actually natural because it's related to economic law. When supply rises up, demand will decrease and vice versa. Lovebirds are easy to breed. You don't need a big cage or quiet environment to breed it. They can spawn 3 or 4th times a year. If everybody has a pair of lovebirds, then you can have many lovebirds during a year. So, you don't need to buy another lovebird.
Actually, you need to buy other types of broodstock. Because there are so many mutations in Agapornis. There are opaline, parblue, euwing, dunfallow, palefallow, fichery, etc. Notwithstanding, if the breeder already has those mutations, they just keep simply breed their birds and sell their chicks. Finally, the lovebird market becomes saturated. There are too many supplies, so the demand has been plunging.
But, anyway for little parrot lovers such as lovebirds, They are not just thinking about the price which continuously decreasing, or the price of millet seeds that continues to creep up. Lovebird lovers only think that keeping the lovebirds could satisfy themselves. It's about a hobby, not just a business.
