Is Indonesia Heaven for Smokers?

Many foreign medias talking about cigarette and smokers in Indonesia. Indeed  you can find many child smokers in this country. Based on the research, there are 2 to 3 people are smokers in Indonesia. It makes anti-smoking campaign held very intense.

Other countries, like America, especially in New York City. Smoking has become a habit in a long time ago. The Government has been controlled cigarette and campaigning anti-smoking massively. Cigarettes become expensive and that campaign successful. Nowadays, the cigarette has been abandoned by many peopled in the US. We can say, that Marlboro man era is over.

Furthermore, it makes cigarette industries have been beaten. Afterward, the giant cigarette industries like Phillip Morris has been expanded to Indonesia. In Indonesia, tobacco industries thrive. We can find many tobacco fields and tobacco industries in Indonesia. Smoking not only about money but also culture. Our founding fathers thinking and fighting with the cigarette in their hand. Moreover, our ancestors are friends with tobacco too.

We are aware if tobacco very dangerous for health. Smoking can cause cancer, heart attack, sterility, etc. That's way tobacco has been challenged and the anti-smoking campaign is very massive. But the question is why alcohol does not get the same treatment?

Alcohol has many negative impacts:
  1. shorten our life
  2. high blood pressure
  3. heart attack
  4. liver disease
  5. reduce intelligence
  6. obesity
  7. disrupt the metabolic system
Interestingly, anti-alcohol campaign less than the anti-tobacco campaign. It happens all over the world. But, why anti-tobacco campaign held very massive in Indonesia which is the big producer of tobacco. I think we must give attention to alcohol like tobacco. So we don't want the issue of anti-tobacco is used to destroy the presence of tobacco in Indonesia and replace it with a synthetic tobacco that can be produced by anyone who does not have fertile ground like Indonesia.
