Homecoming (Mudik)
Mudik is termed to describe of movement of people from a place to another area in a special moment. In Indonesia, we can find this phenomenon in Eid Mubarak. On that day, people who live outside their hometown traveling to go back to their homeland.
In Indonesia, come back to the hometown is become a culture. Money does not really matter as long as they can meet with the family. Even they live in overseas, they will be back.
On that day, we will encounter traffic jam in many main roads like "Pantura" Java island. Many transportations like airplanes, trains, ships were fully booked. Moreover, people also use their vehicles like cars and motorcycles to take their families. And you will see scenery deserted streets in Jakarta.
This phenomenon happens because the majority of residents of the capital are settled foreigners from other regions In Indonesia. They come to Jakarta for a living. They think that Jakarta will give much hope.
Interestingly, homecoming not always carried out by Muslims. Other religion often uses this moment to come back to their hometown too. And do you know if homecoming could make economic equality despite temporarily.
