Tourism in Karanganyar, Central Java (part.1)

Karanganyar is a regency that located in Central Java. It's adjacent with Magetan Regency (East Java) in East side, Sragen in the north, Wonogiri and Sukoharjo in the South, and Solo in the West side. There is a Lawu Mountain between Karanganyar and Magetan that separated Central Java and East Java. There are many tourists attraction in Karanganyar. They are divided into four categories: natural tourism, historical tourism, pilgrimage tourism, cultural tourism.

Natural Tourism
  • Gunung Bromo: Although, it's named "Gunung Bromo" but it's not Bromo Mountain like in East Java. In this place, you'll find a forest which has many rare trees, ex: Sandalwood. The interesting thing in "Gunung Bromo" is a teak tree that surrounded by banyan trees and called "Jati Kurung" (teak brackets). Not only unique, this phenomenon seems miraculous. Just below the teak brackets was inhabited by prince Diponegoro's wife when Dutch colonial period.

  • Sapta Tirta: Sapta means seven, and tirta is water, so "sapta tirtra" means seven spring water. That spring water located in an area about 2 hectares. There is a hermitage that had been used by prince Samber Nyawa (Raden Mas Said).

  • Gunung Lawu: According to the legend, Lawu mountain is the first kingdom in Java that led by  king sent from heaven as stunned by the natural beauty around  Lawu. Since the time of Prabu Brawijaya V, King of Majapahit in the 15th century up to the Mataram Kingdom II, there are many spiritual ceremonies held in Lawu. Until now, Lawu still has close ties with the Surakarta and Yogyakarta Palace, especially in the month of Suro. At that time, the palace relatives often make pilgrimages to shrines at the top of Lawu.

  • Grojogan Sewu: By location altitude of approximately 1000 meters above sea level, the cool air is felt in this place. Moreover, on either side of the waterfall a lot of big old trees tens or even hundreds of years. After wandering around a waterfall with a height of approximately 81 meters, we can sit while enjoying the rabbit or chicken satay. It feels pretty good, and the price is not too expensive.

  • Tea Gardens: As the sun just broke, tea leaf pickers activity has already started. Very exotic scenery.
