Only on a couple of days, Minister of Education and Culture tried to seek a public attention. He planned that students in Elementary and Junior High School will have full day school.

The reasons were if you had stayed at school, your character will build and to avoid the deviant behavior. Moreover, full day school will make children always in the control of their parents.
Related to the hour of school, Indeed Our country is shorter than the other. In Singapore, the junior high school takes almost 9 hours at school. Whereas Cina Elementary school go on about 8 hours, junior high school 10 hours, and senior high school approximately 13 to 15 hours.
Maybe Minister of Education and Culture use those countries as a benchmark to formulate a policy of education in Indonesia. The fact says that both of them are developed countries. However, Finlandia, the country that always be a reference in developing education only let their student in Elementary and junior for 5 hours. Finlandia didn't emphasize in the length of students learning at school. So, which countries that we will use as a role model?
I think, the notion of full day school didn't have a strong argument. Because there is no studies and research that concluded if building character must extend the duration of learning at school. The statement of Minister of Education and Culture about full day school that could have to avoid students from deviant behavior sounds naive. Public know that nowaday, a school still fail to give protecting to the student. We still heard that violence become a scourge.
Furthermore, Is realistic linger at school if the building is not feasible. Ministry of Education and Culture released that on 2015 there are 117.087 Elementary classrooms have been damaged and 32.465 junior classrooms have been broke. Indeed, Jakarta Education Agency reported that 47% school at the capital city have been ruined.
Afterward, how to apply full day school in the remote area? And if only the big city that will apply it policy. Is Minister of Education and Culture have considered the impact of social and economy.
In Jakarta, not all of parents work until 5 pm. Because there are different people's livelihoods and it has an impact on differences of working hours. So, full day school which is expected to increase parental control and participation become irrelevant.
Furthermore, if we talked about Jakarta and the other big city, school hours as same as office hours will increase traffic jam then before. Overlong outside, the rest time will decrease and quality of life will affect too.
From the economic aspect, full day school will impact the need for student food. Pocket money will increase and not all of households can meet this need.
Looking for the weaknesses, full day school don't be a policy for the show. Mr. Muhajir, as a Minister of Education and Culture, have to consultation with his officers to formulate policies that appropriate with conditions and needs
