Condemning Ahok's Blasphemy

Hot news from Jakarta is about blasphemy allegation did by Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok). Ahok was known as Jakarta gubernatorial candidate became a target of Muslim troops. It's because he cited surah Al-Maidah 51 on his speech in Kepulauan Seribu Regency.

Ahok said that Muslim should not be affected by his political rivals that always campaigned for not voted a non-Muslim candidate. Ahok says, "You are deceived by other people by surah al-maidah 51"

Poorly his sentence in the speech was cut by someone named Buni Yani. In the caption of his video, Buni erased the word "by other people" and then he uploaded the video. It's made people infuriated and provoked "the action to defend Islam". Millions of people demonstrations and thronged the downtown. They wanted Ahok to be punished. Finally, Ahok suspected and his electability decreased sharply.

Survey Indikator Politik put Agus-Sylvi on the top position with 30 percent, followed by Ahok-Djarot 26,32 percent, and the last position is Anies-Sandi with 24,5 percent. Furthermore, Charta Politica also presenting survey which was not much different with the previous results. Survei that held on 17-24 November showed Agus-Sylvi still lead with 30,4 percent, Ahok-Djarot 29,3 percent, and Anies-Sandi 26,9 percent. However, the results showed the level of public satisfaction with Ahok is still high.

In this blog, I do not want to discuss how it verse interpreted, but I will underline several things from this case.

First, Ahok did a mistake with his statement, but he has apologized. As a Muslim, forgiveness is very precious. He talked like that might be due to ignorance or unconsciousness. Therefore, as a great Muslims, we should give him enlightenment as taught by Prophet Muhammed

Second, as a Muslim, we should not turning a blind eye. Do we know that Ahok has been showing a kindness to the Muslims in Jakarta? Do you know that guard of mosques gets Umrah to Mecca from Ahok, Jakarta Governor? I think it is kind of respect to Muslims. He also builds a biggest Mosque in Jakarta at Daan Mogot, West Jakarta. So, Is Ahok contemptible just because one word and deserves to get smashed?

Third, this issue is dramatically politized, so the problem was widened to overthrow the Jokowi's Cabinet. The problem directed to the horizontal conflicts. In many areas, there are groups in the name of Muslim disrupted the tolerance and diversity of Indonesia. Such a recently incident in Bandung, West Java. Muslims troops disbanded Christmas event at Sabuga, Bandung Institute Technology.

Addressing these issues, I hope that Muslims in Indonesia can think clearly and do not get caught up in the elite's scenario. We are great not because of sectoral ego. We are great because our ancestors were able to get rid of the ego and promote the unity in addressing the problems of nationality. Thank You
